PAUSE
The body is a vessel and the skin is its armor. It has the freedom to move and contort in ways that are uncommon to the human eye. Pause is a series of images that showcase the fluidity of dance and the natural contours of the human body in motion. This book is a physical representation of hitting the pause button of a video. The images resemble single frames of motion and project the movement into the mind of the viewer.
This photo series was inspired by my fascination with the body. I wanted to capture the beauty of the human skin and document the build of a dancer from unconventional angles. I hope to highlight parts of the body that are not normally seen in the public eye. My goal with this project is to normalize nakedness and the imperfections of the skin as well as showcase the flexibility of dance.
The marks of the skin are just moments in one’s lifetime. We come into this world naked and we flow through it, collecting scars along the way. To be forced to hide these marks suppresses the story of one’s life. To be free is to embrace our flaws.
